On July 15th, 2025, the Argentina Ruby community gathered for another fantastic meetup in Buenos Aires. The event was sponsored by several companies, including SINAPTIA, LeWagon, Rootstrap, OmbuLabs, and Crunchloop, who also hosted the event at their office space.

The evening began with two compelling talks that explored various aspects of Ruby development.

Tree structures in Rails

First up, we heard from Patricio Mac Adden of SINAPTIA, who presented “Tree Structures in Rails”. Patricio shared a real-world problem he encountered while working on SolidTelemetry, a database-backed OpenTelemetry solution for Rails. He walked us through the initial challenges, exploring various existing solutions and explaining why they didn’t work for his specific needs. This led him to devise a solution using CTEs (Common Table Expressions), which resulted in the creation of the with_recursive_tree gem.

Architecture and design in Rails

After a brief recess, we welcomed Ivan Etchart from Crunchloop to the stage for his talk, “Architecture and Design with Rails”. Ivan took us on a journey through the evolving landscape of Rails architecture. He showcased the different architectural components within a Rails application, illustrating how they’ve transformed over time. He also highlighted new patterns that have emerged and provided advice on how to maintain a healthy and scalable Rails application as it continues to grow.

The talks were followed by a lively networking session, where attendees had the chance to connect, share ideas, and enjoy some delightful empanadas and refreshing drinks. It’s always inspiring to see the community come together, fostering collaboration and learning.

Join us next time!

For those who missed out, don’t worry! The next meetup will be held online in August. Keep an eye on Ruby Argentina’s social media channels for more details on the date.

We look forward to seeing you there!
